Acrylic on found book cover.

I had originally planned to cover these fully in patterns and forms, but when I made the first line I realized something. The extreme contrast and simplicity of a single thick line had divided up the material into quadrants. Now every bit of surface distortion was highlighted to the extreme.

In doing this you can now start to guess at what these books went through in the last century - one appears to have been hammered upon, and both have had water damage, grease, and use-wear.

As an artist who focuses specifically on the effects of the element of time on materials, I had to stop here - it’s too conceptually intriguing that a single line could sharpen our focus so drastically.
