In keeping with my wish for more sculptural and tactile illustration, these pieces explore stories and memories of my late grandfather 'Papa' George. The first is an old wooden toy I illustrated on to replicate the taxi service he ran in Lebanon in the 50's. The second is a pair of cases filled with little music box recorders - each holding a spoken memory of him from various relatives. The final piece is a replication artifact: My grandfather was born into destitution after his family fled the genocide in 1915. As a child he would collect old nails and straiten them to be strung up and resold at the market. He eventually became greatly successful due to his resourcefulness, and was able to bring his family to the United States when war broke out in the 60's.
